Document in December, Scrap it in January!

Join me for my Days of December Mini Scrapbooks project! It’s free and it can be all digital or you can use my Trello system to document December in December, print your photos and then scrapbook it in January or whenever! The important part is documenting the moments so you can remember them always. Sign up below! We start December 1!

Holiday Paper Crafts

Are you into card making or holiday paper-crafting? Around this time of year it is on my mind to make some hand made gifts, like calendars or mini scrapbooks. I enjoy using up some of my supply stash and making my own coordinating pieces of a kit, but there are lots of cute kits available, and you will see them at the bottom of this post.

December Daily, Pocket Pages, Christmas Project Life

For the past 6 or 7 years I have been doing my own version of December Daily. If you don’t know what this is, you’re in for a treat. It is a way to document the 25 days in December leading up to Christmas. I treasure my books!

First off, I will give a shout out to my last local mom n pop scrapbook shop in my area: Stamp Delights in La Mesa, California. They do so many fun make and takes and cards…sooo many rubber stamps too. The owner, Debbie is so creative and she obviously loves what she does. Visit their Facebook page for more info on classes. I will always support small businesses in my area if I can! Amen.

Hybrid December Daily & Pocket Pages

The way I do my December books is a hybrid of pocket pages and December Daily. By this I mean I use the idea of December Daily, but I use my own prompts and mismatch my scrapbook papers and embellishments.

I have soooo much Christmas stuff, that I just can’t buy anymore! (Even though I am so tempted by all the cute products that come out every year!) Before the month of December I scrap an assortment of coordinating Christmas pocket page cards. Typically my cards are either 3×4 or 4×6, standard sizes that slide into pockets of a plastic sheet protector. Hence, pocket pages.

I find that I am either in an organizing mood or a creative mood, so if I just focus on crafting the cards, I am more productive.

Visit my Pinterest December Daily board in case you need some inspiration! I’ve been pinning away for a few years now on this board. I like to make my own “kits” for December Daily, but the official kit is available every year at aliedwards.com…

This easy wine cork jewelry organizer is a fun and different way to display your jewelry. It's an easy DIY with cork you have collected over the years.

I go crazy “pre-fabbing” my cards and get into my creative zone, so that later, when I’m in the holiday thick of it, I can write on these already decorated cards with my special journaling, photos and memories. It works for me. I know others are more particular than this, and make a layout for every day of December. I don’t, mostly because I know I can’t keep up if I do it that way. I tend to pre-make some of the traditions we have each year in a more generic way, like a cookie making page, a trip to The Nutcracker, or even making Reindeer Food, etc. It’s just so busy in December that I try to simplify my scrapbooking or it will never get done.

I also find the transition between organizing my layouts and being creative at the same time slows me down, so this way I can focus on one or the other and get in a good groove.
